Final Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media product?

 

The real RMA on the left has a bold title in a big pink circle that is on the left side of the front cover. For the main title different fonts were used which gives an interestest and something funky to it. The main image is a full body and is portrait which is placed on the whole front cover. This magazine has a a lot of images and not as much writting which immediately shows that this RMA represetns teens. These images are quite big and taking a lot of space. The main title and cover line adds a lot of colour ans interest to the magazine and due to the colours that they used plus the font size, it gives the audience an idea what is the main feature. There are only 3 cover lines and they are spread everyhing on the front cover.They have a list at the bottom of extra things and the bar code quite large on the front cover, the issue and price are feaured on this area.The important feaures are written in yellow and the others are written in pink. The front cover of this RMA is not so busy which gives a clear indication to the reader.

My front cover on the right, like the RMA has a bold title that is on the left side of the front cover excepte that I used a sort of start as the background in order to give something funky to the main title instead of using different fonts because I thought that this would be con,fusing for the audience. However for the `O` of POP I tried to do it like the real media artifact. My main image is portrait and was placed at the centre of the page as well in order to guide the audience attention to the main feature. My main cover line unlike the RMA is written accross under the main image. I placed my bar code on the right and like the real media artifcat I used a background for it except that I used yellow. My colour scheme is a bit similar from the front cover on the left however they used more yellow and I used more purple/pink in order to represent Pop.

The RMA on the left side has the title going across the top of the content page. The main story images is bigger however, they did not use the same band from the front cover which could be a bit confusing for the reader. The other images takes the rest of the space and are smaller compare to the main image to still keep the reader focuses on the bigger features. The page numbers on the images are bigger which give the audience an idea of what the main features are. The other page numbers are smaller, they also used different colours for each categories. There is also a lot of advertisement on the environment which could be educational for the reader as the target is teens. On the real media artefact content page, they did carry on with the colour scheme however they did add more colours to it.

My contents page which is on the right, has the title going across on the top of the content page which is similar to the RMA, this was the most efficient way to give the reader an idea that this is the content page. There is not as many images as the real media artefact however, my main image story is the biggest and the other features images are smaller, unlike the real media artefact I used the same main image to give better guidance to the reader. Like the RMA my page numbers for the main features are bigger than the normal page numbers. Instead of using different colours for the page numbers I changed the background to show the different categories. My colour scheme is similar to the real RMA however I did not replace any of my colours unlike the RMA which did.

Esme Asare

Esme Asare is 12 years old. I asked her questions about my music magazine and she gave me both positive and negative points:

* One of the good and important points that Esme gave me is that she said that my magazine looked like a music magazine which is good as this was the whole point of the task. She also said that everything was easy to see and find which is important on a magazine.
* However she said that I could have maybe added music notes in order to make the genre a bit clearer.

Angela Asare

* Angela Asare sated that my music magazine is very eye catching which is an important selling point.
* But she said that on the DPS there is too much writing and that I should added more pictures. This could be a big disadvantage as my target audience is from 12-16 years old.

Anotida Mugari

* The negative points from Anotida was that the colours were clashing. The purple and yellow do not look good together and this might affect the audience into buying the magazine.
* However she said that it looked good and it would have looked better maybe with less yellow.

Looking back at your prelim, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Personal Statement from Mr.President

" I am glad that I won, and creating a front cover for a magazine was a real challenge. I am not going to lie and tell you that President P and I were spying on each other and this is how I knew how to create a good front cover. The research that I had to do was easy and useful as I knew what I had to put on there in order to create something that would be interesting for the people from the United Mags. Ex President P did not do any research which could have been a problem. Then I went on and started to plan, now that was a difficulty as I have never done this before, however as you can see the result is not bad which means that it was good that I planned as it gave me an idea of what worked with what and what I had to change which by the way President P didn't do. I also learnt hoe to use different technologies in order to make your product look good. See when you are big headed something bad will always make you come back right down to the earth. By anyway in my research I ask some of my audience for help and that was a real advantage as it gave me an idea of what I had to put in there. President P did a big mistake not following and doing any of these, but hey its life and I am President now!!!"

Due to my feedback I had top change most of the parts in my scripts in order for it to make more sense to an audience.


"And here we are year 2014, elections have finally started. President Prelim and Minister Pop beats are finally running against each other for the beautiful sit in the white house."

Here comes the President Prelim!!
Elected on the 1st of January, President P has given his final word that nobody can be as successful as him. The current president of the United Mags has been very specific on the ides that if anyone tries to overcome him, they will get destroy. He believes that the people in the United Mags need a leader, a leader that will bring them to glory and power and that person he believe is him.


However can this be argued?


And here come Minister Pop Beats (clapping)

Elected on the 19th of March, the Minister has been arguing against the President P proclaims. Stating that he is too big headed and does not have what it takes to lead the country.


The two presidents have been fighting, fighting and fighting and the people are starting to get tires of this debate. In order to decide the future President that is going to be leaving in the white house, both of them were asked to create the front cover of a magazine choosing the topic that they wanted and present it to the people.


Let`s go over to President P who`s topic is school, however is this topic really going to attract the people from this country especially teens?


The first thing that the people of this country noticed was that hardly any planning was done for President P magazine which could affect the voting in a bad way. The background used for the magazine is bright and colourful which gives it something interesting and an attractive look. The main image looks attractive and takes the whole page however the fact that the person on the magazine has no eye contact seems to bother the people as they feel like when they look at someone in the eyes, they have a special connection and understand this person. The writing around it looks nice and there are a lot of interesting things to look at and read and the United Mags loves these. Another that really the people from this country did not like is that they felt like not enough work was done on this front cover and due to this they feel like President P does not car about them.


WOW!!! I guess President P is not as amazing as he made it sound, now let`s go over Minister Pop Beats.


Topic chosen Pop music


The United Mags people feel like a lot more work was done on this front cover and they really appreciate this. The people on the Magazine are giving eye contact and that makes the people from the United Mags more comfortable and they feel attracted to it. There is less writing which gives a clear layout however it does look a bit empty. Everything is clearly laid out and there is evidence of editing and work on it. This magazine also offer free things  which the people thing is a good idea as they feel like Minister is caring for them. One other thing is that a lot less colours were used and it looks a bit empty. The United Mags people feel like there are things on the front cover which does not necessarily make it look like a music magazine. However there is a big jump from President P (which was not to good) to Minister Pop Beats which is better.


After months of fighting and debating it look like President P will have to give away his sit in the white house. The people from UM have seen the difference between the two front covers and they feel like more research, as well as a lot of planning was done on Minister Pop Beats magazine front cover.


This is a real shame for President P, he should be leaving the white house tonight.


Well it looks like we have a new president, please clap for the NEW PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED MAGS!!! (clapping)

I made some changes after getting my feedback. I re-phrased some of my sentence as I was told that I used the word 'good' too much. At the end I also added a paragraph to explain the imporantce of technologies in order to show that I understood why technologies are imporant in our every day lives.

Year 2014, elections have finally started.

Name= President Prelim States

Elected on the 1st of January 2014, President P has given his final word that nobody can be as successful as him. The president of the United Mags has been very specific on the idea that if anyone tries to overcome him, they will get destroy. Prelim:

On here I am cropping the image that I used as free posters.

 

This is taking out the background on my fron cover.

 On here I am changing the contrast and lighting og the picture.

I then changed the colour balance in order to give more colour and brighness to the picture.

This it finally looked however the background was not as perfect so in roder to have a clean and professional image, I edited it again in `Cut out Studio`.

 Which one is better and what do you think I should change?

"You second cover has a more professional feel to it. I prefer the picture changes in the left had corner. The change in font is also an improvement. However in your previous draft there are some feature which I think you should include. For example, the text placements in you first draft seem more precise, giving it more of a professional feel. I suggest that you create a combination of both when it come to the text. Combining the font change in draft 2 and text placement in draft 1 to create and overall more fresh look."

Which one is better and what do you think I should change?

"I like that you have used a picture of the group as the background. This is similar to what is being produced in the mass market. This show that you have done further research into what is available and have tried to implement what you have learnt. This progression is impressive. I like the new DPS and when it`s going to be finished it will look better and the changes that you have made show an awareness of your target audience."

This is the feedback that I got from my teachers throughtouth the process of my construction.

* "Your 3 products are getting there. I think you need to reshoot in profile rather than landscape if you are sticking with the band and it needs to fill the front cover. You also need to think about the mes as they are a band and should be styled in a similar way. Go back to RMAs and see how this works."

* "You've been working hard here- well done.
Front cover- nice title and purple- the cover doesn't all hang well together and the bottom section seems separate to the top. Lots of blank space so look at layout. Check cropping of photo. The price is large- do you want it this big?!
Contents- you need to use the space better here- a large picture and it takes up a lot of room- edit this as appropriate and make the contents more a list of features as it reads a little like a front cover. Check how many page numbers you have in a mag.
DPS- well-considered layout. Don't over-complicate by having too many font colours- it needs to be clear and easy to read. Check codes and conentions e.g. Drop Caps."

I had to re-shoot my main cover image because I needed to do it portrait but I did it landscape and a main image on a magazine is suppose to be taking the whole page. The way they were dress as well was not good as they did not look like a band. Here are the pictures that I took:
